Congratulations are in order for Robyn Hill, our amazing Coyote classroom teacher and Before and After Care Program Director!
The Simha and Sara Lainer Distinguished Educator Award for Early Education is awarded each year by the BJE (Builders of Jewish Education) to 3 teachers in the greater Los Angeles area. We are very pleased to announce that Robyn Hill is one of this year's recipients. Nominated by Judy, the BJE sent out someone to watch Robyn in action. This was a stealth operation as nominees are not told who they are unless they win. The staff was informed that the BJE just wanted to observe our general program. We received word yesterday that Robyn has been chosen to receive this wonderful honor .
Here is an excerpt from the application that was submitted "I think exemplary teachers are judged not on one activity but on the total environment created. Rather than one example, I would like to describe how she approaches the holidays. She goes beyond the books and holiday information to develop activities that use a wide array of cognitive skills and children's imagination. There is lots of opportunity for children to share ideas and dictate stories. Her students have a good sense of tikun olam and take responsibility as the oldest children to watch out for the younger students, help with tasks for the entire school community and know that the "privileges" of being the oldest kids come with obligations to care for the younger ones. She can adapt her style to the individual needs of each child while simultaneously knowing what every child is doing and what is happening in the classroom. She is the first teacher many of our early arriving students see each day. The enthusiasm they express as they run in each morning looking for her to share a story or show her something is a tribute to caring nature. Her commitment to her students and their families is a recurring theme and we have current school parents who have wonderful memories of the nurturing environment she provided when they attended here."
Robyn will receive her award at the BJE In-Service we will be attending on Monday, March 12 (reminder school is closed that day). We are all very proud of her. I have always felt that one of the strengths of our school is the dedication of our entire staff to the children and their commitment to providing the best possible environment for them within which to learn and grow.
